The UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women held a European-wide NGO consultation last year organised by NAWO
NOW we need LOCAL action : Come, hear the findings, bring your experience and determine local priorities, learn how to lobby, and make a difference where you live
Starting points:
• Violence against women arises from and causes further gender inequality
• Violence against women is on a continuum – from pole dancing to rape and prostitution; strategies for combating it need to recognise these cultural links
Dates:
• September 4 2008 – Leicester with FATIMA
• September 30 2008 – Bristol with University of West England and Bristol Fawcett – focusing on trafficking
• October 6 2008 — Norwich, Friend’s Meeting House
• January 21 2009 – London – Two Years of Action – Amnesty International Action Centre
Meetings are also planned for Cornwall and Leeds
