The Mayor is committed to tackling violence to make London a safer city. The Mayor has set out in “The Way Forward” his proposals to tackle violence against women and girls.

If you have senior level experience in the violence against women and girls voluntary and community sector your contribution is needed as a member of the London Violence Against Women and Girls Panel.

The London Violence Against Women and Girls Panel is chaired by Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor for Policing, and is the independent non-statutory body advising the Mayor of London on the actions required to ensure the capital is at the forefront of work to end violence against women, not just in the UK but globally. The Panels role is to promote integrated and innovative solutions, policies and programmes to deliver improvements in tackling and, most importantly, preventing violence against women.

You will have demonstrated outstanding communication and leadership skills and ability to operate in a political environment. Above all you must bring drive, commitment and practicality to deliver solutions to the challenges London faces to achieve reductions in violence against women.

Panel members will be responsible for informing and championing London’s approach to violence against women and girls as set out in the Mayor’s strategy “The Way Forward” and the action plan embedding preventative work and challenging attitudes towards violence against women and girls across various sectors. Dealing with issues as diverse as: preventative activity with young people; improving services for women who have been victims of violence; inequality and diversity; the London wide implications of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games; and the health, social and economic consequences of violence against women, you will build on the success of the work of individual agencies and help to improve co-ordination and raise the profile of this issue for the future.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is noon Friday 8th January 2010.

The selection process will take place in January.
