Dianne Whitfield, Centre Manager at CRASAC, has welcomed the invitation today from the Women’s National Commission (WNC) to meet with the US Ambassador at the Embassy in London. Eight women’s organisations in total have been selected and CRASAC are representing the voice of victims of sexual violence. This is as a direct result of CRASAC working with the WNC to host three focus groups with Coventry victims and survivors of rape and abuse, which contributed to the Cross Government Strategy on Violence Against Women (VAW) and the WNC focus groups report. The US Embassy expressed an interest in meeting with Managers from Violence Against Women services involved to hear about their services and their views on what needs to be done to address violence against women.
Eleri Butler from the WNC said: “Officials at the US Embassy want to hear from women’s services we’ve worked with and listen to what they think the issues are in terms of the UK’s response to violence against women nationally and locally and in particular the issues for their services. The focus group in Coventry was a key aspect of the WNC report and we were sincerely grateful to the women courageous enough to share their experiences.”
Dianne Whitfield from CRASAC said: “We are very grateful for this opportunity and I also want to thank our victims and survivors for taking part. Our aim within CRASAC is to ensure that the voices of the victims and survivors of sexual violence are heard nationally and locally within Coventry.”
Cllr Kevin Foster from Coventry City Council: “CRASAC symbolises what is best about Coventry, a local group helping people who have survived sexual or were the victims of violence. I am pleased that the US Ambassador will get to hear first hand of the work they are doing as it provides a model I hope others will follow.”
