A team of forensic scientists from Huntingdon have donned Santa hats and recorded a Christmas CD in aid of charity.

The 18 Huntingdon Forensic Science Service Laboratory workers are more used to helping gather evidence to help police forces solve some of the region’s most despicable crimes.

But this Christmas they are also helping the victims of crime, with their album called the Forensicators and Friends Christmas 2009.

The compilation of Christmas classics is performed and produced by the team with all proceeds from sales going to the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre which offers free confidential telephone support to victims of rape as well as their friends and family.

The CD has 14 tracks and was the idea of Moina Macaskill and Gavin Foad, both scientists at the FSS lab.

Moina told The Hunts Post: “We thought it would be a great way to raise some money and have a good time as well.

“We’re all amateurs and definitely don’t have the X Factor, but it is a good fun CD that took an enormous amount of effort to produce and we’re all proud of it.”

Songs include Dominick the Donkey sung by Laura Preece, 2000 Miles performed by Gavin Foad and Moina gives her own rendition of Santa Baby.

Money from the CD will help the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre with its plans to extend services it offers by moving to larger, better equipped premises.

The charity hopes to start offering face-to-face meetings, counselling and self-help groups.

The centre is staffed by volunteers and is open on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

The CD is available for a minimum donation of £5 by e-mailing ChristmasCD@hotmail.com or phoning 07789 133506.
