White Ribbon Day will be marked this year in Hillingdon with an information fayre in the Mall Pavillions Uxbridge on Tuesday 24 November

The purpose of the fayre is to raise awareness of all domestic and community safety issues.
International White Ribbon Day is commemorated internationally on the 25 November every year across many countries.
Its purpose is to raise awareness of domestic violence and to state publicly that domestic violence, in all its guises, is not acceptable.
Representatives from various groups will be on hand to provide help and support to people on the day including the council, Police, Age Concern, Victim Support and the Primary Care Trust. Representatives welcome the opportunity to speak to residents about their concerns or about the issues White Ribbon Day raises.
The Mayor of Hillingdon, councillor Shirley Harper-O’Neill, will make a speech at 10am about the importance of White Ribbon Day and the support available in the borough for those that need it and councillor Janet Gardner, domestic violence victim’s advocate and councillor Mary O’Connor, chairman of the Domestic Violence Forum will also be on hand to answer questions and to hear from local people.
Cllr Gardner said: “By discussing and raising awareness of domestic violence in the context of community safety in Hillingdon I hope that more people will engage with the council and its partners to find out more about issues that are affect the lives of so many people and that can affect anyone at any time.”
The council and its partners takes a strong lead in promoting initiatives to reduce domestic violence and promote community safety. These include: The specialist domestic violence court The establishment of an independent advocacy service that specialises in domestic violence Local policing to deal with crime and disorder that can impact on people’s quality of life Installing burglar alarms to vulnerable residents Tackling the issue of weapons by conducting searches and offering people the opportunity to dispose of weapons anonymously Making physical improvements to an area, such as extra street lighting and additional CCTV.
