Greater Manchester 16 Days Of Action Event
for 16 days of action which calls globally for an End of Violence to Women
25th November – 10th December 2009

We all have a role…

From the beginning – when a women first experiences abuse or violence to the point when there is an end to a
situation of abuse.

Key aims of the event:
* To encourage and support greater interaction between the existing local domestic abuse strategies across Greater Manchester, promoting the reduction and ultimate elimination of violence towards women
* To share good practice and innovations in domestic abuse services, particularly in relation to new presenting needs in Greater Manchester in 2009, and for women with complex needs
* To highlight projects, campaigns and plans for work throughout the region around domestic abuse in 2010

Venue: St Thomas Centre (GMCVO), Ardwick Green
Duration: 12.30pm – 7.30pm
* 12.30pm lunch
* 1.30 – 4.45pm ‘From beginning to end event’
* 5pm – Annual Review launch and domestic abuse networking event from 5 – 7.30pm (including a domestic abuse services governance meeting from 6 – 7pm)

The event includes:
* Greater Manchester Police will be speaking on their new Domestic Abuse, Homicide Prevention strategy
* Presentation of the new Home Office Government strategy on Violence to Women and Girls
* Rights of Women – Address by Emma Scott, Director of Rights of Women
* 16 Days of Action talk by Kate Cook, Manchester Metropolitan University and co-author of ‘Rape Crisis; Responding to Sexual Violence’
* ‘Leaving’ – a film on domestic abuse
* Stalls by organisations and strategic forums across Greater Manchester
* Wide range of workshops

Independent Choices run the Greater Manchester Women’s Domestic Abuse Helpline and the Women’s Safety Service.

The Women’s Domestic Abuse Helpline deal with over 7,000 calls a year, this has increased by about 500 per year for the last 3 years.
