The Policing and Crime Bill, which is currently being scrutinised by Parliament, introduces a new category of sex establishment called ’sex encounter venue’ that will allow local authorities in England and Wales to regulation lap dancing clubs and similar venues under Schedule 3 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.
These reforms will give local communities a greater say over the number and location of lap dancing clubs in their area.
This consultation seeks your views on proposals for the transitional arrangements that will be set out in secondary legislation to be made by the Secretary of State in England and Welsh Ministers in Wales.
Annex 1 shows how the transitional arrangements for existing operators would work under these proposals.
