Women in Tune Music Festival – the first women’s music festival in the UK

Leave your worries and cares at home, throw away that office key, leave your men folk with their mates, and come and join us in the beautiful hills of West Wales to enjoy the unique WIT Music Festival. Take time out with other women of all ages, backgrounds and interests – have fun, relax, be creative, be inspired…

Come and enjoy a diverse programme of quality performances by female artists from around the world. From classical to rock, folk to jazz, poetry to rap – be prepared to be entertained by an amazing array of talented women.

With a full programme of workshops daily there is always something for everyone however much or little experience you have. It’s not just music! We offer workshops in other related performing arts such as different forms of dance, poetry, writing, storytelling, theatre etc. If you bring your children the availability of our crèche and dedicated girls and teens area will give you the free time you need to take part in all the workshops you want.

Open stage night gives you the chance to get up on the main stage and perform to a great audience. If you feel a little shy but would still like to give performing a go try the smaller, more intimate acoustic stage or join in singing and playing music around one of the campfires.

If you want to run a short workshop to share your skills with other women there will be the time and space to do this…

…or alternatively you can chill out with a nice cup of tea, chatting with friends, enjoying the view and letting the music wash over you.

The warm and friendly atmosphere of the WIT Festival is a unique experience not to be missed – whether you stay for 1 day or the full 6 days we are sure you will have a great time. Check out the details of this years festival.

If you want to be more involved then come and join our crew . The set up and crewing of the festival is carried out by a team of volunteers who work alongside our staff every year to transform empty fields into a bustling festival site, ensure that everything runs smoothly, then return the fields to their original condition as if nothing had happened. If you are interested in being part of the team visit our crew page for more details.

WIT 2008 – ‘In Spite of the Olympics’ Festival – 22nd – 25th August

We have had bad news in that we have been granted absolutely NO funding for the festival this year. After much soul searching we have had to take the only responsible decision we could – to cancel the main event for this year. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the debt from last year which so many of you have helped us to clear. Thanks for this must go entirely to the London Olympics, which is taking up vast amounts of arts funding and bringing bigger and better established organisations than WIT to their knees.

However……. we don’t feel like letting the Olympic monster totally get the better of us. We plan to put on a much scaled down event for the August bank holiday weekend.

As we cannot afford to buy in the facilities we usually have we will be running an acoustic stage with fewer scheduled workshops than usual. There will be campfires and open stage opportunities for you all to get creative and Storywrights will be there contributing with creative writing workshops and storytelling.

We may not be able to provide a crèche but there will at least be a play area for children to use. We will be able to provide a basic café for drinks and snacks only so you will need to cater for your meals; however the local village shop is very well stocked and nearby town of Lampeter only a short drive away.

So get out your tent, creativity and enthusiasm and join us for a fun weekend, despite the Olympics.

CREW JOBS AVAILABLE

We still need a good size crew to run the festival, please contact Michele if you are interested as the job options will be different from previous years.

There will be a programme of workshops and performances this year.

Amidst all the doom and gloom about funding Academi is still funding creative writing and storytelling at WIT.
