Together We Will End Male Violence Against Women

The women organising the march say that “enough is enough” Never has the rape of a woman’s right and dignity been so systematic and coordinated, the health and lives of women have never faced such peril.”

The women’s march has been organized by ordinary women fed up with violence against women in all its forms.

“Something has to happen for women and now”

The Million Woman Rise is expected to include a day of speeches, prayer and music. Hundreds of thousands of women are expected at Saturday’s rally, which is aimed at addressing violence against women through a show of political, social and economic solidarity.

Stop violence against women in all its forms
Million Women Rise, National Womens March And Rally, Saturday 7 March 2009

The Coalition consists of a group of women from women’s voluntary organisations and individuals who have come together on a voluntary basis to highlight the continuing violence against women and to demand that steps are taken to end it. Details about our work can be found at our website on http://www.millionwomenrise.com Our supporters include trade unions, women’s aid and rape crisis centres and countless other groups working with women survivors of violence.

On 8 March 2008, we organized our first march and rally in Central London. Despite our limited resources (we rely totally on donations), some 5,000 women joined us in calling for an end to all violence against women. Plans are already being made for the rally and march on Saturday 7th March 2009 which we believe will be much bigger than our first one.

Meantime, please could you give 3 minutes of your time to help us send the Prime Minister an important message? All you need to do is go to the Prime Minister’s website at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/IWDpublicholiday/ and sign our petition which calls for a national strategy to deal with violence against women and for International Women’s Day to be declared a national public holiday in recognition of the positive contribution made by women nationally and worldwide.

This will only take a few minutes but will make a big difference. The more signatures we have, the more pressure we can put on the Government to take decisive and meaningful action
